Result: Bonagee United 3-0 Drumbar United
It wasn’t to be for our Senior Ladies in the DWL Dessie Kelly Cup Final.
After an incredible league campaign and reaching the County Cup Final, it wasn’t to be for our ladies in Ballyare last night.
We came up against a very strong Bonagee side in what was a fantastic, competitive final. The first half was tightly contested, with Drumbar probably creating the better of the chances. Emily Slator was causing Bonagee plenty of problems with her driving runs down the right, but unfortunately we just couldn’t find the finish we needed.
As always, the girls battled for every ball and worked tirelessly as a team. Defensively, we were excellent for long periods and limited Bonagee to very few clear opportunities.
The second half remained evenly contested until Bonagee found the breakthrough on 70 minutes with a fantastic finish from their number 9, Ellen Temple. From there, they grew in confidence and despite our best efforts and a few fantastic saves from Drumbar’s goalkeeper Leah Boyle, they added two further goals late on in the 81st and 87th minutes through Tara Mc Daid to secure the cup.
Congratulations to Bonagee players and coaches on their deserved victory and credit to both teams for putting on such an entertaining and competitive final. It was a great advertisement for Senior Ladies football in Donegal.
For us, while the result last night was disappointing, we can be incredibly proud of what this group has achieved.
9 wins
3 draws
4 defeats
More importantly than the results, the improvement this team has shown throughout the season has been fantastic. The commitment, attitude and togetherness shown by everyone involved has been brilliant.
To every player — thank you. You have represented Drumbar United with great pride and given everything for the club all season, through both the winter 7 a side league and continued into the summer 11 a side league.
Last night doesn’t take away from what has been a fantastic campaign.
Enjoy the well-earned break now girls. You deserve it.
